Moss Icon - Lyburnum

Woah this place looks different it's all grey. Here is some Moss Icon, some band that were playing emotional hardcore before people were even calling it that (emotional hardcore sounds dumb anyway, like regular hardcore isn't emotional already?). Too bad they missed the 'Revolution Summer' by a year or something. Blah blah, it's good, get it.

I Have Dreams - Three Days 'Til Christmas

This would've been totally hilarious if I posted this three days before Christmas but I'm not, it's nowhere near Christmas. In fact, it's probably as far from Christmas as you can get and I don't give a shit because this album has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. Fuck Christmas, I don't care for it. Hell, it's not even an album, it's an EP. Extended play. As opposed to a long play? Extended sounds like it ought to be longer than long. Shit, I don't care. This is the soundtrack to your girlfriend breaking up with you and getting together with some piece of shit junkie trash and making dumb twitter statuses about how she loves her boy dumb amounts and couldn't be happier while you continue to be a worthless loser going nowhere in life fast, but fuck it you get to play Oblivion all day and Skyrim's coming out in November and you don't need a girlfriend because video games are way better anyway and they won't break your fragile little emo heart.

Penfold - Amateurs & Professionals

Whiny emo songs for whiny emo kids. More than just 'songs about girls and being sad and stuff'. Get this if you're a fan of Mineral and the ilk because it sounds like them but arguably better. Arguably. You're welcome to argue that. I'm just here to hyperbole after all. If you were here then I would take you eeeveryyywheeere. Listen to that song if you only listen to one (why the fuck would you ever do that?) because it's certainly among the better emo songs in the history of emo songs. Emo is a really dumb word.

Snowing - I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted

I Could Do Whatever I Want If I Wanted is Snowing's debut Full Length, a sprawling LP filled with a plethora of personal lyrics, drunken sing-a-longs, and noodly riffs. While not as compact as their earlier demos, Snowing's new LP is an enjoyable album and certainly a contender for end-of-the-year lists.

Wavelets

Wavelets are a Floridian band with their hearts in the mid-west. Very catchy emo with all the twinkly-ness you would expect from mid-west worship, along with stupid song titles which seem like in-jokes or something of the sort. If you're a fan of the style, this is well worth a look.

Conveniently, the guys in the band are so generous as to post all of their material for free download here.

So no excuses.

Chalk Talk - Killing Spree

old news for old people. This little ep came out in late 2009 and it's pretty irrelevant as far as music listening goes, but fuck is it fun.

Alright so I posted that because I couldn't find the album artwork, but look at those fucking dudes. When listening to these dudes sing off tuned to really simple hardcore songs, with a surprising yet noticeable surf tint, you feel comforted with a sort of relatability in the vein of Titus Andronicus(the distinction being that Titus Andronicus is actually self-aware about this sort of shit and sing about it with this springsteen-esque boldness, thus making them not losers). That's right....this is loser music for losers and it's awesome. Not exactly inventive or even the most exciting music, but it brings me back and brings a smile, so click the link down there.

Acres. - Silos

I have loved this album forever.

Acres. are a relatively unknown emo band from New Jersey and the obscurity of the cover of their release Silos reflects on the band themselves. In the words of fellow contributor Sam, this EP is full of "nice, summer-ish" emo tunes, laced with lovely kinsella-esque melodies and shouted, angsty vocals. I've pretty much been hyping this since its release last February and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this is one of the most clarified, hard-hitting emo albums since last year's What It Takes To Move Forward by Empire! Empire!(I Was A Lonely Estate). At first listen it's nothing new, as emo apologist SlightlyEpic may tell you, but the record is full of genuine emotion and is devoid of pretense. Check it out.

Red Dead Redemption

I've been playing this game all day, it's pretty sweet. It has guns and horses and cowboys and shit. And lassos! Oh man, lassos. I lassoed this bitch, tied her up and dropped her on the train tracks. Hell yeah. Then I waited close to 10 minutes for the fucking train to come along, what a waste of time and just to put insult to injury it wasn't even that gory or anything. There is, however, no moral to this story. Other than that cowboys are still badass despite what that stupid fucking Brokeback Mountain movie wants you to think. It must be gay propaganda. Cowboys don't take shit from nobody.

I'm a cowboy, motherfucker. The only downside to being a cowboy is that there are people out there trying to stop whatever badass things you want to do. You know, sheriffs and stuff. I'm not too sure if a sheriff actually qualifies as being a cowboy himself, but he's a cowboy killer. He kills cowboys. Well only if he's good I guess, if not I suppose the cowboys kill him. A Day in Black and White are a band that support the killing of cowboys. How edgy is that?
