Iniquity - Serenadium

A wise man once said, 'don't judge a book by its horribly cheesy CGI cover'.

Danish band Iniquity released this back in '96, a time when all that quality old school dm was drying out a little bit, and new trends were starting up. This album is a perfect representation of that time, as it's still got a little of that old school vibe, but is leaning towards the more modern brutal and technical dm camps.

Something for every dm fan here, no excuses for not checking it out.

Released a cassette in '09 which was pretty cool, but I prefer this, which came out a short time ago.

Death/doom from Australia.

Though not as filthy and deranged as some of Australia's more recent output, and not as great as the seminal diSEMBOWELMENT album, Transcendence into The Peripheral, Cruciform still put out great quality material. Unfortunately, this album and a later demo were all they released, but quality over quantity is always a good thing.

Just another awesome album to add to the strong reputation of Australia's underground history.

Some crushing blackened death from NZ. They definitely have a similar style to fellow county-men Diocletian, though for some reason many looked past this album when both bands dropped new releases late last year.

Baphomet were a death metal band from Buffalo, back in the late 80's - early 90's. In 1992 they released this awesome album, The Dead Shall Inherit, but shortly thereafter changed their name because some other faggy band called Baphomet whinged. So then they became Banished...

...and released another awesome album: Deliver Me Unto Pain.

Dead Congregation/Hatespawn - Split

Greek death metal band Dead Congregation blew me away with their 2008 release Graves of the Archangels, bringing an old school flavour to their brand of modern death metal. Their 2005 EP Purifying Consecrated Ground is equally brilliant. In this split, Dead Congregation contributes two short songs, which are balanced out by one considerably longer track from relatively unknown band Hatespawn. Who rule. Their contribution, the song "...Of Unspeakable Cults...(Invocation From The Wasteland of Misanthropic Bloodshed)" is one of the best death metal tracks I've heard coming out of these last couple of years. If you don't have this already then you should have started downloading it half way through reading this.

The Mothman

If you haven't already heard of this phenomenon that occured in the late 60's, allow me to fill you in.

The mothman is a creature that many residents of Point Place, West Virginia have reported seeing late at night around an abandoned U.S. Federal missile and weapons facility. Many drivers along the highway that is adjacent to the facility saw a 7' tall grey human-shaped being with giant wings and red eyes lurking in the fields. Some even said that the creature had no head, and its beaming red eyes were embedded into its chest. Some people even reported that The Mothman would follow their car for miles and could get up to speeds of 100 MPH. All I know is fuck yeah, this guy seems cool and I would like to chill and smoke a doobie wit him.
