A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Ashes Grammar

So it's finally starting to feel like spring, down here in Melbourne.

The sun is out, people look a little less gloomy, and blissful indie tunes are taking over.

This is the audible recording of Spring.

Deerhunter- Halcyon Digest

Deerhunter once again release another album of alienated atmosphere and nostalgic pop motifs, this time delving more into regression than any other of their previous albums. Halcyon Digest features much classic rock and is their most straightforward record yet and while it doesn't spend too much time drowning itself in atmospherics, Deerhunter's new LP has a fuzzy, timeless sound to it that enhances Bradford Cox's obscured croon. This album will appeal to fans of art rockers No Age and classic dream pop bands in the vein of Stereolab. Nice.

Devics - My Beautiful Sinking Ship

You know sometimes when you walk into a bar at night in a big city and there's not a lot of people but there's an unknown band playing sexy, sultry dreamy pop playing under blue stagelights and you're sitting at the bar looking at the beautiful female lead singer through a fog of cigarette smoke and her voice immediately makes you fall in love with her? Devics is that band.

Akira Kosemura - Grassland

Truly beautiful, almost minimalist dreamy pop from an Asian person that sounds just like how you would imagine a lonely night in Tokyo to sound like. Certainly a frontrunner for "Best Album To Listen To In The Coming Cold Months Of 2010" award.

Brendan Perry - Eye of the Hunter

Brendan Perry is the male half of brilliant Australian gothic/neoclassical/post punk act Dead Can Dance. His solo music definitely carries some of the aesthetic traits of his work with DCD but it's far more sparse instrumentally. I like to think of it as a combination of dream pop and folk. Whatever this sonic amalgamation's identity, it's mind-bendingly beautiful. His voice suits the acoustic guitar and occasional flourishes of string incredibly well, and his lyrics are affecting. People who like Trespassers William and The Cure should definitely be interested in this guy's work.

Kyte - Kyte

Been back at uni for a few days, has been interesting, more interesting than I'd anticipated actually. Have really been into Kyte at the moment. They're a dream pop/shoegazey/post rock concoction from Leicestershire in England. Their music is fairly unoriginal but it's so well done and beautiful that those reservations I had about it were quickly shunted aside. Vocals also do the trick. They're quite subtle too; you'll hear something in the music that you didn't notice had been incorporated, like a violin hum or an electronic shimmer. The production on this is also quite interesting. It was all recorded in one of the band members' bedrooms, lending a quite ethereal effect to the music, as a lot of the instrument tracks bleed into one another in the music.

very pretty listen.

Here's the opening track and lead single from the album, "Planet:"

Oh Dianna OHO DIANNA...DIIAYANAAAHHH

Nick Cave references are fucking hard to make when it's only two words and you can't actually convey what it sounds like bar some lame half-assed onomatopoeia.

Ugh.

Anyways I'd like to follow on from Slightly's post about what I'd like to refer to as "sandwich makers" but can't for fear of coming off as disgustingly sexist. And plus I'd be afraid that these guys would sue me.

Anyways, yes. Let me present you with this:

That's Dianna Agron from the musical TV comedy Glee, and as you can see she is gorgeous.
Now It'd be very bold to say she was the hottest thing that's ever walked the planet, but let me provide some food for thought:

FUCKING LOOK AT HER.

That smile, in which the whitest teeth are revealed by those impossibly impeccable DSL* and the perfect way they come together at flawless junctions at either side of her mouth seems to be inviting me to go places no one, man or woman, would object to going. I subject myself to you Dianna and accept your invitation. Take me now and I will be yours forever after. And we will dance around bonfires with leaves and flowers in our hair, and be merry with red wine in our hands and figs we picked from wild bushes in little cane baskets hanging in the crooks of our elbows.

And we can listen to this always.
